In December 2019, the Mühleberg nuclear power plant (KKM) was switched off after 47 years of service. This historic event clearly demonstrated the great interest in the KKM among the population, politicians and the media. The BKW also wanted to capture this great interest in the longer term and create an inviting, informative meeting zone with a new information centre.
The focus? Not just the technology, but above all the people. This was the story that the BKW wanted to tell. The information centre shows the many people who were and still are closely connected with the nuclear power plant. It also shows how emotional and impressive the shutdown moment was, and how extensive the reporting was. And finally, the information centre also dares to look ahead. It asks questions about decommissioning and invites people to ask themselves: what will life be like in 2034, when the dismantling of the nuclear power plant will be completed?
Habegger had the privilege of accompanying the BKW on this project from the idea, concept and content to the implementation and acceptance. The result was a unique, interactive information centre that guides visitors through the KKM’s impressive history, but also into the future. The information centre was opened on 22 August 2020.
