A look behind the scenes: The world of broadcasting

Habegger | 3 June 2024

How do we capture the magic of live events and bring them into the living rooms of millions of people around the world? What makes broadcasting so unique and indispensable for events like Art on Ice and the ISU Skating Awards? We draw back the curtain and immerse ourselves in the world of figure skating and broadcasting.

As a proud partner of Arto on Ice, the world’s leading figure skating show, Habegger has been an indispensable part of this breathtaking spectacle for 25 years. Year after year, loyal fans flock to Hallenstadion Zurich, to enjoy a unique show of sporting brilliance and musical excellence. With a team of 90 people, we are responsible for technical planning and realisation as well as the broadcasting of the event.

The presentation of the ISU Skating Awards, which honours the world’s best figure skaters, is also a highlight in the figure skating community’s calendar. During the award ceremony, we make sure that the whole world can be there as the event unfolds. Three cheers for the magic of broadcasting!

But what is so special about broadcasting? Why is it an added-value for an event, for the emotions and for lasting experiences? It is the combination of state-of-the-art technology and the capture of individual moments for eternity that makes every show an unforgettable experience. With our ultra-modern cameras and specialised technology, we bring viewers closer to the action than ever before. Our 100x zoom lenses capture every last emotion on the artists’ faces, while our 5.1 Dolby microphone system transports the pulsating atmosphere of the stadium directly into the audience’s living rooms.

Broadcasting is more than just a technical matter. It is the only way to experience the highlights of the show again and again. To re-create goosebump moments in the post-communication of an event. Think of the Beatles’ legendary performance at the Woodstock Festival. Without video recordings, this historic moment would have been lost for ever.

But broadcast does not just mean the recording of events. The reach of the events can be significantly extended by broadcasting on various platforms and channels. For example, this year’s ISU Skating Awards, had an international audience of over 210,000 viewers on YouTube.

To sum up: Your event is not only captured in sound and vision, but you can also present your message to a global audience and distribute it on various platforms. Branding and brand value are increased. In a world where the demand for high-quality entertainment is constantly growing, broadcasting has become an indispensable tool.
